The fifth meeting of the TIMSS 2019 NRC was held in Stockholm, Sweden from 12 to 17 August, 2018.
The aim of the meeting was to determine, upon the statistical indicators obtained by the field test, the quality of the test instruments and the timeframe for the main TIMSS 2019 study. One of the central subjects was the application of the GDPR rules (General Data Protection Regulation), effective from May 2018.
A total of 121 454 fourth and eighth grade students from 59 countries and 6 educational systems participated in the TIMSS 2019 field test. Out of that number, 31 countries and 6 education systems administered eTIMSS, while 18 countries administered ‘paper and pencil’ test.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the field test was taken by 1 185 students while 62 math teachers, 60 science teachers, and 31 directors, from 31 primary schools, completed the corresponding questionnaires. The results of the field assessment are not published – they serve for validating the main study test instruments.
At the meeting, NRCs held individual meetings to define the sampling and timeframe for the TIMSS 2019 main study in their respective countries.
The next NRC meeting is scheduled 10 to 15 March 2019 in Limassol, Cyprus.
